Sustainability in the beef industry is a complex issue. To help define it to a broader audience the experts at the Beef Cattle Institute are working on a grant-funded project to create a series of webinars and podcasts. Supported through the National Cattlemen's Beef Association and Beef Checkoff program, the project materials are targeted specifically to non-commercial foodservice providers. This audience includes representatives of colleges, universities, government agencies, healthcare providers, and private businesses. They represent 35% of total foodservice spending. The goal of the project is to provide scientific, non-biased information to enhance the understanding of the beef industry structure, animal health and welfare, and the tradeoffs of social, economic, and environmental aspects of sustainability.
